How Beautiful Is Our Country

How Beautiful Is Our Country written by Terry & Jenny Bennetts 2005

I’ve travelled ‘round this big old land, seen oceans blue to desert sands
And rivers that would make your spirits soar
Seen the land much further out, where life seems to be one long drought
And the creeks they just don’t run any more
But of all the places I have been and all the things that I have seen
On one favourite place how could I decide
For it will never cease to amaze me, how beautiful is our country
More beautiful with you by my side

We stayed a little while in Broome, heard the Pigrams knock out a tune
As that Kimberley moon smiled on you and me
Watched a Cable Beach sunset, a sailboat passed in silhouette
As a million diamonds danced upon the sea
Tried to catch old mangrove jack, no luck but we’ll be back
We’ll try again at the turning of the tide
Here’s another town to make me see, how beautiful is our country
I was there with you by my side

Saw the sights around Derby, took photos of the prison tree
Strange how we treated our fellow man
Stood on that wharf and looked out in awe, as those muddy waters rushed to the shore
With a force I find it hard to understand
We walked that route where in it’s day, so many cattle passed this way
And the ghosts of old stockman they still ride
Oh how I love this place with it’s history, here in the heart of the Kimberley
I saw it all with you by my side

There’s all these little stops along the way, at Barn Hill Station we overstayed
Where the Great Sandy Desert runs to the shore
Had a beer at Whim Creek Hotel, listened to story’s that travelers tell
‘til closing time when they showed us the door
Now onwards further North we go, on this stretch of road that we don’t know
We’ll travel on, with wonder written in our eye’s
For It will never cease to amaze me, how beautiful is our country
I’ll see it all with you by my side
It will never cease to amaze me, how beautiful is our country
I’ll see it all with you by my side
Yeah I’ll see it all with you by my side
