An Old Country Waltz

The old fella sits on his veranda all day
His much loved fiddle in hand
Old dance tunes he would play it brings back the good days
When he was just a young man

He could tell you some tales how they traveled New South Wales
His band knew every country dance hall
They played Pride of Erin, The Barn Dance and Quick Step
And they played an old country waltz

Hand in hand couples danced ‘round the floor
Another old time Saturday night
And the man on his fiddle would play all night long
These were the best years of his life

Now these dance halls are empty, some no longer there
They  ring to the music no more
There’s nobody singing to the songs they were playing
No young lovers twirl  ‘round the floor

Hand in hand couples danced ‘round the floor
Another old time Saturday night
And the young man on his fiddle would play all night long
He was having the time of his life

Here the old fella sits, bow and fiddle in hand
Those dance hall days he recalls
The old  tunes he would play, it brings back the good days
When he played an old country waltz
Those dance tunes he would play, it brings back the good days
When he played an old country waltz.
