His Boots There By The Door – Lyrics

“It’s a sad fact of life that here in Australia more young men under the age of 45 die but their own hand, especially in rural areas. This is one mother’s story as told to me”

A mothers caring ways, will never fade with age
He will be her baby boy for ever more
He was a young man born to roam, but she knew when he came home
In the morning she’s find his boots there by the door

Young ‘Snow’ was a troubled soul, who was loved by young and old
But he needed to be where the open road ran free
It would break his mother’s heart, to spend so much time apart
She said I just need to have him home safe here with me

He’d leave his home by those rolling hills, to head up Queensland way
Working cattle south of Emerald near Springsure
And when the work ran out, he’d just thumb a lift down South
That’s when his Mum would find his boots there by the door

And a mothers caring ways, will never fade with age
He will be her baby boy for ever more
He was a young man born to roam, but she knew when he came home
In the morning she’s find his boots there by the door

The years they drifted by, and still she wondered why
Her young ‘Snow’ just couldn’t seem to settle down
Each time he found a home, that he could call his own
He’d just up and move on to another town

‘Spoken’
‘A mothers gravest fear, is to lose a child so dear
And until her dying day for her loving son she’ll mourn’
For no more will he roam, no more will he come home
No more she’ll find his boots there by the door

And a mothers caring ways, will never fade with age
He will be her baby boy for ever more
There’s a picture on the wall, for her son the tears will fall
And she’ll remember when his boots were by the door
When she would find his boots there by the door.
