The Horses Stay Behind by Terry Bennetts and Oliver Hogue (Trouper Bluegum)

Major Oliver Hogue (“Trooper Bluegum”) one of the Australian Infantry Force’s best-known soldier-poets, expressed a common sentiment in Palestine in 1919 in the words of his poem “The Horses Stay Behind”. He said he would rather see the Walers of the light horse shot than to be sold to the local population.

Terry Bennetts created the music and melody for his poem and this recoding is a live performance of The Horses Stay Behind.
